Maybe you're a few years into people leadership and still figuring it out as you go. Or maybe you've been leading for a while but you've been so focused on execution that your team hasn't really gotten much better - and now you're stuck reviewing every deck, fixing every analysis, and wondering why no one can just handle it.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. This is way more common than you think. Many of my clients come to me for this exact reason.

Here's what might be happening: You're in the weeds because you don't fully trust what's coming up to you yet, and you haven't built the kind of team or environment where you can trust it. You can't take a vacation without everything going sideways. And you're probably doing more work than you need to because you're trying to be helpful.

Maybe you've even overcorrected from a terrible boss you had, so you've leaned hard into being "nice." You had an example of what not to do, but haven’t a lot of examples of how to do it well. But avoiding hard conversations, doing their work for them, and never giving real feedback (for example) is not actually helping anyone. It's just exhausting you and keeping your team from growing.

Here's the good news: there's an easier, more effective way to do this. You can develop people who genuinely step up. You can delegate real ownership and trust what comes back. You can lead strategically instead of reactively. And yes, you can actually take time off.
